The White House Historical Society Collectible Christmas Tree Ornament

2008 White House Christmas Ornament honors the administration of President Benjamin Harrison. Mr. Harrison is considered to be the Centennial president, celebrating the 100 years of the American Experiment during his term in office. He was the grandson of our 9th President William Henry Harrison. The 2008 ornament features a Christmas tree in the White House. The Harrison's were the first family to have a Christmas Tree in the White House. Mr. Harrison spent Christmas with his family and was particularly fond of dressing as Santa Claus to give the children their presents. He is quoted as saying, ”We shall have an old-fashioned Christmas Tree.” This colorful tree is decorated in the style of the day with toys under the tree, trimming with sparkling silver garland, and topped with crossed American flags. Toy soldiers, one of many gifts cataloged as being given during the holidays, are part of the trim along with period design ornaments.  Additional features include:
  • Booklet on the Biography of Benjamin Harrison
  • Handcrafted in the USA
  • Engraved ribbon on tree reads "White House Christmas 2008"
  • Engraved back reads " We shall have an old-fashioned Christmas Tree. B Harrison"
  • Beautifully displayed in gift box
  • Size: H 3 5/8" x 2 5/8"

The White House ornament collection's inception began in 1981. The tradition in making these ornaments has spaned three decades, and celebrates each presidential legacy starting with George Washington. This White House collection is the single largest ornament program in the United States.
